Over and out (only for a while!!)

I'm having a little break from blogging for a wee while. Only a month or so I think, and I'll definitely be back...

Its time to spend some quality time off work with my hubby and also to have a think about where sooziebee is headed, as I'm feeling a little bit stuck at the mo. Now I have finished the commissions I have had this year I'm wondering and pondering what to do next. I have so many ideas, they are all just jiggling about in the old grey matter and I'm not really sure what I want to do with them. So I am going to attempt to break my 'blog' addiction for four weeks (hmmm, lets see how long she lasts!!!) and will be back with you at the end of October, with lots of inspiration, new ideas, and sketches, I hope.

Newbie books

Heres a little look at two lovely new books I have just bought from Amazon, they are both pattern books as Im really into patterns at the moment and am trying to put a bit of a portfolio together of patterns of my own. The books are Over and Over by Mike Perry and Principles of Pattern Design by Richard M Proctor (quite an old book that has been revamped, based on theory of pattern design and how things fit together, as I'm a bit of a nerd who likes to know this kind of stuff when I'm doing it!!) Both books are quite inspirational in their own ways, check them out at Amazon.

Artist/Blog of the Week

Lovely lovely products I have just discovered by Katie of What Katie Does. Katie is an artist based in London who makes these gorgeous prints and bags. I really love her work, check it out in her Etsy shop and also check out her blog. It's well worth a visit. As well as her prints and bags she also makes cards with her quirky illustrations and with every Etsy order you receive a mini-bookmark and a badge. She also has a shop on Folksy too.

Blimey, I haven't done ANY work this week on my designs and my head is bursting with ideas. I have been so busy with MEGA day job stresses and also with nice things like spending time with my family. Hence, not enough time for patterns and sketch books. But, while I was up on the farm spending a few days with my parents my dad was kind enough to chop me a big pile of wood that he had hanging about. It is now stacked neatly (although a bit precariously) at the side of my studio, ready for when the stove is connected up to its chimney. So here is a log-pile inspired doodle done this afternoon in the sunshine!! Sorry nothing more exciting to show you at the mo!!!

Poppy cushion

Can you see this as a cushion cover?

Poppy cards

I have been busy today, after my 7.30am swim (yes, i know i am still surprising myself that i have kept this up for more than one session) i have been in the studio creating two ranges of poppy cards, one on a 5x5 inch card and the other DL size (see bottom). AT last I finally have my first product 'range' and I'm working on the other bits of the said range this afternoon. Hopefully will have more pictures later....

Great news

After a weekend of agonising about the fate of our cat, Barney, we decided to get him the blood tests so at least our decision would be informed. I'm pleased to say that his kidneys seem to still be working ok, so he isn't as ill as we thought. He will prob end up on tablets for his thyroid (which might stop him from eating us out of house and home!) and he lives to see another day! Thank goodness that's all over with for now and thanks for all your lovely comments!

And also some lovely inspirationals in the give away post below, keep em coming, I love hearing other peoples good thoughts!!

Gladioli patterns

Trying to keep my mind off poorly Barney, it isn't really working...

Patterns and inspiration

I have been familiarising myself with Photoshop and getting some practice with putting patterns together, after seeing a picture of a lovely glass mosaic vase. Now I don't normally go for geometric things but thought that tiled patterns would be easier to tackle than non-square ones.
Here are the results,

And a squiggly one for good measure, I couldn't resist it. It's been fun.

On a more serious note, we had to take our cat to the vets this weekend, as he has lost a lot of weight and is drinking tonnes of water. We had an idea that his kidneys may be buggered but we also found out that he has thyroid problems too. Add to this the fact that he has arthritis in his back and has trouble cleaning himself.... well, we have a very difficult decision to make. I spent most of yesterday feeling very tearful and wondering what will be the best thing to do. We don't want him to suffer having to go thru blood tests etc, but feel he still has some quality of life at the moment, although he does look quite uncomfortable sometimes. He has had a great life and has been with us for 13 years. Maybe the kinder option would be to take him to the vets soon before he gets too ill, but it just makes me feel like a murderer! It's a very difficult decision to have to make....
Only a week until the closing date for the giveaway, get your inspirational thoughts to me asap, (and if you have any about having your cat put to sleep that will make me feel any better please fell free to post!!)

Ok, its been a long time coming but I am proud to say that to celebrate my 200th post I'm having a little giveaway of some of my sooziebee goodies. I can't believe I have been bloggin for 200 posts!! I didn't ever think I had so much to say. This blogging community that I have become a part of provides me with daily inspiration, support, smiles, and much appreciated comments from you readers out there. So this is my turn to give something back.... without sounding too syrupy... thanks for the comments, thanks for reading and thanks for providing some great reading on your blogs too.... thankyouverymuch!!

Ok, all you have to do is share your own favourite inspirational thought; whether it be a favourite quote, mantra, words of wisdom, business motto or little bit of your own philosophy, that keeps you going, makes you feel good, inspired, funny, philosophical whatever you like really....

I'll start you off, here's one of mine.... heard on the radio yesterday, while driving home from work 'if you can dream it, you can do it!' I like this one, it makes me feel I can really make something of my little part-time business, one day.

Names will be put into a hat and drawn on 13th September and the winner will be notified via this blog so watch this space, I'm looking forward to lots of inspirational thoughts from you all.

Oh yes and the prize, it will contain an orginal free machine embroidered poppy piece ready to be mounted onto a canvas frame of your choice, an original lino print, small sooziebee 8x8 inch original stitched piece and a pack of cards, so even though I say it myself it will be a good one!!

Shameless promo

These are some snaps of some canvas work I have been developing. This one needs to be framed, as I haven't got my husband to make me any frames yet, and also to keep the cost of postage down. Check it out in my shop. I have been making some more just in black and white which look fab (if I may say so myself, how modest I am!!) but I can't unveil them until after the weekend as I haven't got the pictures of them framed yet.

Here are a couple of recent sketch book pages of some gladioli we bought at the weekend. I have more pattern ideas but not enough time in the day to bring them to life... Maybe later in the week, fingers crossed

Rain Rain go away

This rain is p***ing me right off!!! I'm already thinking of all the hot places I want to go on holiday next year so i might get a sun-kissed complexion, naturally blonder hair (this year I am having to rely on my hairdresser) and get to wear strappy t-shirts and shorts, sunglasses, and sandals without socks (ha, only behind closed doors when I can't be bothered to find my slippers!). Next weekend is our last chance this year to camp and i don't like the look of the forecast too much, boo boo boo!
Maybe we should seriously be thinking about moving to France???
