Mugs and Jugs

Just a few pics of my work, to prove to myself that I actually have done something towards my new project. I'm immersing mysef in basic shapes of kithen things and so far have looked a bit at mugs and jugs. Luckily last night we went to stay with some friends who have the most amazing collection of ceramics, so I took a few photos, I particularly love this mug below. It just makes you want to put the kettle on and cradle in it your hands!!

Which kind of inspired me to draw loads of mugs in all shapes and sizes....

And then there were the jugs... don't be rude now... (by the way don't do a google search for images, I got quite a shock!!)

And this kind of happened....

I think it' so long since I have drawn anything I just need to brush off the old cobwebs and just do loads of sketching, but the problem is at the moment I am just doing so much of thinking about doing it, not much is getting done! OK, I'm off to do something.... will just pop the kettle on first and then... I promise to sketch.

Blog and Etsy find of the week

A wonderful artist I have found on Etsy is seasprayblue's Katrin from Dresden. Her work has a wonderful dreamlike quality and I just love the simple lines and also the mixed content of her work. I espcially love these teacups below, I think I'm drawn to them because of my recent venture into all things kitchen-y (if that's a word!), but also love them flowers below. Hot recommendation: check out her Etsy store and feast your eyes on her work.

These cards are from prints of her work, I just love them and think I may have to treat myself to a little something very soon.

I also felt I had to mention Bloesem which is a beautiful little blog about all things creative and there are some gorgeous things on there. This is definitely going on my list of daily visits, although my blog-roll is getting so long that i think i may need to rearrange it to make it a bit more 'organised'. Oh no, another job to do instead of starting my project!! I think I am just a bit scared of that blank page. Anyone else suffer from that?

My little treat

Take a look at my little 'treat-to-me', a rainbow selection of lino printing inks, bought yesterday. Today I really AM going to start my project, instead of procrastinating! Kitchen utensils here I come.
Oh, and I found some amazing inspiration and words of encouragement on print and pattern which is a fab blog I check out on a regular basis. Scroll down for some lovely kitchen designs.

Food, glorious food!

I have finally come up with an idea for my new project for 2008. (collective gasps!)

I feel I kind of overdid the flowers thing last year and once I started I just couldn't seem to get out of the garden! This time I have chosen another subject close to my heart: FOOD! Yup, 'm a bit of a greedy foodie, so what better to get me inspired than lots of nice nosh! I came up with the idea when I was trying to get to sleep the other night, and I was thinking of things I really like (while trying to put the idea of nipping downstairs to go and nibble some of my mam's excellent Xmas cake out of my head!).

Once I got started (thinking, not nibbling) I thought of loads of ideas for things I could do. I really want to expand my skills this year and try something i haven't done before, a bit of printing, inspired by the lovely lusummers whose work you can see a bit of below, Heather from skinnylaminx , the amazing prints from Jesse at jezzeblog and also Noelle at PinkBathTub to name but a few. So now I have to do my research and get some work done. I'm aiming to produce something I can market under the sooziebee brand.... so wish me luck and watch this space.

Blog of the week: LuSummers

My first posting of blogs/work/people/places i really like/find inspiring. Da, da, daaaaah!

This is lusummers and she shares a lot of my mixed media passions when it comes to art. Her use of collage, print, colour and stitch really appeals to me, as well as her love of envelope-insides (a wee fetish I share!).

She is based in the UK, makes fab journals, which are so beautiful I'm not sure that I wouldn't want to frame them (some of which you can see below and also you can see them if you drop in on her Etsy shop ). She also dabbles in handmade greetings card and art works for your homes.

Really liking this, keep up the fab work lu, can't wait to see what you produce in 2008, and thanks for your tips on the printing. Am gonna get on with mine this afternoon.

First commission in the bag!

And they liked it!!! Very pleased that it turned out as they wanted it. And now that it has been delivered I can post about it on here.

I can't believe nearly a week has gone by since my last post. I'm having computer nightmares and am thinking I am going to have to go and buy a new one! Major expense that we could do without at the moment as we are saving hard for the studio but if this one keeps acting up I will go mad!!

Will start my posts about other blogs/artists/work tomorrow, with a little feature about someone I have just discovered and whose work I really love lusummers

Busy bee!

I was going to post earlier today to say it's a windy rainy Sunday afternoon and I really felt like I needed to use my time constructively today and do some sooziebee work. But instead I just got off my butt and DID some sooziebee work and added some new items to my sooziebeee etsy store . These are as yet unseen as I did them for my Christmas fare at Patchings way back in November and was that busy I didn't have time to post them on here.

I have also had a think about this blog and the way it is going and have made a few decisions about what it is going to contain in 2008. Instead of just me rambling on about me and my work I am going to try and do one post a week about someone or something that has really inspired me, or just someone whose work I admire, or even just about a lovely blog I have found, just to make it a little more varied and interesting for you.

I have opened my Etsy store!!

I have opened my Etsy store today. It has taken me quite a while. not being the most computer savvy lass in the world, but I have managed to list some of my original watercolour-machine embroidered originals: Stop by and have a look.

As for everything else, I'm busy today with my commission for friends, the weather outside is horrible, BUT we are off to the Big Smoke tomorrow with our two lovely nieces who we are taking to see The Lion King for their Xmas present. I think we are more excited than they are... Ooh yes and a trip to Hamleys too!!

AND, before I go, I'm pleased to say I have broken the 2000 hits barrier for this blog, so all of you lovelies who stop by, read or leave me comments, THANKS, it has me feel very proud!

Great news

We have just had some fantastic news today from our Council (which makes a change as the kind of news you usually get from them tends to be of the 'not good' variety: ie increase in council tax, neighbours wanting to build a four storey exension in their garden etc!!). We don't need to apply for Planning Permission for our brick built outhouse, at the top of our garden. We want to make it into a kind of summer house chill out room kinda thing (where we can go to get away from it all). Work starts this April, we hope. Just have to buy a shed to put all of the crap from the outhouse in!!

Sneaky preview of my first 2008 project!

Sneak preview of my first project of 2008.... a series of three canvasses for some very good friends of mine, to go in their spare bedroom. Colour scheme: brown and blue, size: about a3-ish, and just in the prep stages at the moment.

The one dilemma I have, and call me a soft girl if you will, but I am having the biggest problem with costing things. I don't REALLY want to charge them for the work but a need to cover costs. What would I charge if I was doing this for someone I didn't know??? Any insights would be useful... I just don't know where to begin and need some help! Truth be known, I would just love for someone I love to have some of my work on their walls and for them to tell all their friends about it. Is that making any sense?

Look what Santa brought!

Before I get all carried away with the New Year and all the things I want to do myself I just had to share this with you. It's something very treasured I got for Christmas from my sister, and it's all the way from New Zealand, from a very talented artist, Bernadette Sipkes, at sugarloop . Check out her work on her blog and also her Etsy shop. I just love her designs and the amazing colours and composition. I'm a very lucky girl, can't wait to get this framed!

And look, these are the lovely little thankyou notes placed in the back of the print, a really nice little touch!

Happy New Year!

Well, it's been a while, but I'm glad to say I'm back in blog-land. Hope you have all had a very happy festive period and New Year! I have been stopping by a few of my fave blogs now and again thru December so I have been keeping up to date with things!

Sooziebee officially re-opens next week, after I have been to get my hair done! I'll be spending two days a week on it and three days at my regular job. I have had lots of inspiration and ideas over the holiday period but haven't put pen to paper or used my sewing machine since November so I'm raring to go, with a few commissions and jobs to do.

I'm hoping to take things a step further this year and try to do another couple of shows and try to get my work into some small shops in the area.

So, for now, I'll love you and leave you and will be back next week I hope!
