and some days it just does...

... like today! I have only been in the studio this afternoon, and I went in without a real plan of attack. I knew I needed some more stock for the shop but also needed to get on with some Mothers Day designs. I decided (yes, I made a decision!!) to concentrate on stock for the shop and the upcoming Nottingham Craft Mafia fair at Trent Uni next week. See above for my pleasing results!! A new slant on my stitched cards, with added watercolour-colour.

Some days is just doesn't happen...

Starting with my shift in the Nottingham Craft Mafia shop where I only had one sale all morning, and then this afternoon full of ideas in the studio, tried to put together a load of them, this was the best of a not particularly good bunch!! Oh well, I guess you need those 'mediocre' days to make you appreciate the really good ones!!

Blog love

The lovely Alicia from The Red Deer blog in Adelaide, Australia has been very kind and has featured me in her Etsy Cupcakes picks of the week, see above. She has a lovely blog full of gorgeous Etsy picks, AND she has some amazing CUPCAKE RECIPES on there that I jut have to try. I especially like the look of the Red Velvet (which looks a bit like the one I tried at the Magnolia Bakery in New York, mmmmm, divine scrumptiousness!!
Oh, yes and talking of cakes, I have to have a big shout out to my sister little-hb as its her birthday today, HAPPY BIRTHDAY MY LOVELY!!

Keep 'em coming!

oooh, all the comments are making my mouth water, keep them coming in, and I will be doing the draw on Sunday.

Above is a new 6x6 inch card I have printed off tonight, and I think it is one of my fave cards so far. It's on Etsy if you want one!! This is the kind of card I aspired to design, I think (and I don't want to sound big-headed or smug, but I think this is the kind of card I would buy). Would love any critique you can offer, but this is one that may be going all the way to my porfolio.

Eat cake, 300th post giveaway

I like cake, and it doesn't have to be my birthday to eat it!! MMMMMM, yes I have got it, a cake related 300th post giveaway, all you need to do is to tell me what your favourite cake is to be entered into my draw. Fave cake?? Mine has to be chocolate and guiness, grown-ups only!!
And the prize, well it will be cake related.... sticking with the theme of course!! Closing date will be March 1st 7pm GMT...

Poorly boy

I'm sending these hearts to my husband who is on the sofa fast asleep, not feeling very well at all. He seems to have escaped all of the bugs I have had recently, until now, and has a cold, so I hope he is feeling better soon. It has been a relaxing weekend, and today I'm being very lazy and instead of going up to the studio to do some painting I am going to spend the afternoon scanning lots of old photos so I can put them onto my new picture frame.
It's only a couple of posts until my 300th giveaway, I haven't thought of what it is going to be yet, but watch this space and you could be lucky enough to win some sooziebee goodies.
Enjoy the rest of the weekend x x

with a cherry on top

This is an idea for some gift wrap, using a more textured approach. I have been told that some of my simpler photoshop pieces looked a bit flat as I have block coloured them with single colours, and the resulting image wasn't as interesting as it could be. I think I have made improvements here with a bit more shading etc in the cake wrappers. I think I need to go and sit in a quiet room with my Photoshop book and learn a few more tricks of the trade. I'm liking the way this is going though but am not really 100% in the sooziebee 'zone' today. feel like I want to sleep instead zzzzzzzzzz

6th of the 6th, two smelly wet dogs on holiday

Now then, what a random picture you may be thinking.... but there is a method to my madness today. I saw a great post of Jesse's blog this week about an idea she, or one of her fellow bloggers had, it's a bit like tagging, and even though I wasn't tagged I had to join in. What you have to do is:

"Open the 6th picture folder on your computer, open the 6th photo and blog it. Write something about it. Then tag 6 more people to do the same."

Well, I won't tag 6 other peeps but if you want to join in then be my guest and leave a comment to say you've had a go.

This picture is from a holiday we took a few years ago in Wales, Pembrokeshire to be exact, with two of our very good friends and their dog. We were down on a little beach, looking in rock pools and enjoying the late October sunshine and our two dogs had been swimming, digging in the sand and running around after sticks, generally having a fab old doggy time! I took this picture of them sat on the sea wall, and I just think its great (PS Jack is the one on the right, Tia his girlfriend, is the other!!), 'two smelly wet dogs on holiday!' After this we went for one of the best pub lunches ever, fresh seafood salad by the sea, as always my life book-marked by food!!

Darling heart

Another ORIGINAL watercolour, just added to my shop this very evening. Go on, make by day, pop in and have a look.

I only just noticed today that I'm nearly up to my 300th post, and we all know what that means, look out for another sooziebee giveaway very soon (is it just me or does it not seem like 5 minutes since the last one!!) Ah, well time flies when you are having fun, or so they say!

Green Clover Forever

I am starting to list my original watercolours that I have been using for my recent card designs, as suggested to me recently by Karen Faulkner (if I have half as much success as she does I'll be well-chuffed!!). So here goes the second one, Green Clover Forever, which was one of three or four I painted a few weeks ago. I think it looks fab in a frame (the one in the picture is an IKEA Ribba frame, which I just love, we have them all over our house in varying shapes and sizes!). But I'm selling all originals unframed and then 'if' anyone buys one they can pick their own.
I've had a really great day at work today, it was a good old belly-laugh kind of day, which has made me think what a lot of good a change of scenery does for you, and how being away from your normal day to day stuff makes you appreciate those around you that you are lucky enough to share your days with.

PMA

No, not pre-menstrual angst, but positive mental attitude. We have just come back from a lovely long weekend away with some of my lovely friends from University, and I am all chilled out and ready for another week. We stayed in a gorgeous barn conversion near Ludlow, one of the foodie capitals of the west, and I must say we had an amazing time, great company, great food and plenty of gossip. It's great to catch up with people you don't see often and realise that you all get on as well as ever. True friends!! I just hope the person who empties the 'glass' recycling bin doesn't do themselves any damage whilst trying to dispose of our empties!!

While I was away I had the good fortune to meet an ex-greetings card publisher who was good enough to take a peek at my portfolio and give me some well-needed feedback and also some useful info and advice about the 'business', and how to go about starting up, getting supplies etc etc. Very useful indeedy. I have lots of food for thought, and hope to be coming up with a little plan soon, about my work and the direction I would like to take it. Plenty to ponder.....

And I have also posted a couple of new designs in my Etsy Shop (and I made a sale over the weekend too.... yey!!)

yummy

This is one of my cards, finished today, find it soon on Etsy. Oh yes, I have some news, I had my first Folksy sale today!!! Yippee!! A pack of five poppy stitched cards, it's turned out to be quite a week!

Ok, I'm off now, no more posts til next week, I'm having a long weekend!!

Smiling now

Ah, thanks peeps, you have cheered me up! It's great to get words of encouragement from you all. I'm pleased to hear you are liking the cakes! I have been in the studio this morning, trying out different techniques, and seeing which looks best. What do you think?? As usual, when faced with a decision, I can't make up my mind! I think I like the stitch effect with the collage, (I really need to sort thru all my huge box of paper, but I think if I start that today I won't get anything else done!). I also like the idea of making the black outline a softer colour (see the bottom three here), it just looks a bit more subtle, but then again, I also like the three cakes above the bottom ones , where I have used water-colour effects as the 'fill' colour for the cakes.
Hmmmm, well, at least I can't say I haven't achieved anthing today. Better mood plus 9am run had definitely got my day off to a flying start.

Glum

Boo, feeling a bit blue, and I'm not even cheered up by the thought of cupcakes!! Maybe it is the time of year, or maybe it's just my turn, or maybe it's the cupcakes!! Who knows? I think I'm ready for spring, a bit of warmth, colour and sunshine, longer evenings and walks after work. Hopefully I will wake up tomorrow bounding with energy and enthusiasm, ready for a day of creativity and all that!

More cupcakes

Just trying different styles at the mo, but I have a full day in the studio on Thursday so I will be experimenting to my hearts content all day long, and will post my fave results to show you on Thursday night.

As for everything else, I have entered one of my Valentine Cards into a Tigerprint competition this week, and they are running more this year, so I will be setting myself mini-projects each time a new one comes out, and even if I have no luck with the comps, at least I will have a few new designs to try to market to other companies. How does that sound for a plan, Stan?

The days doodles

Being in the Craft Mafia shop is like spending time in your studio, but you have people to talk to and lots of lovely things to look at! I spent most of my shift there today doodling in my sketch book, (as you can see I was inspired by the cup-cake brooch I bought (see it below)) and thinking of some designs for Mothers Day, which isn't far away. Thinking ahead (thats twice this year..... wow!!)

New

I did a shift this morning at the Nottingham Craft Mafia shop, which I love to do when I have the time. It's great going in an looking at all the new goodies that my fellow members have added to their collections. Today though, I couldn't just look, I had to buy, one of these gorgeous little felt brooches made by mollys mum, who you can find out all about here I also love her animal badges, which you can see in her Etsy shop here.

New patterns

Some new patterns I've done today in the studio, any preferences on the colours?

All white now

Woke up this morning to this..... how pleased am I that it's my day off? This is the view from my studio, it's all so crisp and gorgeous. I think if I'd had to drive to work again today I would have cried!

We have just got back from taking our dog for a walk across the fields. Now back home, in the cosy warmth of our cottage, and just having a piece of cake and cup of tea. I don't think we will be doing much today!!

More blog love

I got a mention today on another blog from the lovely Catherine Moran aka Kitty Stitch (see above, her beautiful Valentine Cards, to be found in her Etsy shop here). She is a UK-based artist in Brighton, a textile designer with an interest in print, knit, painting, embroidery, illustration, graphics, fashion and any type of pattern, so she shares a lot of my interests too! Please find her blog here, and also her website here, where you can find examples of her work, enjoy the eye candy and thanks to Catherine for the mention.
I have also posted one of my new Good Luck cards on Etsy so I hope that will be winging its way to a new home soon.
I have had a bit of a crappy week so far, due to the snow. Its been horrendous trying to commute, and took me two and a half hours this morning to get there, instead of 45 mins. I was a nervous wreck by then tiem I got to work this morning, and it just seemed to put me off my stride for the whole day. How did it get so bad so quickly, we just are completely out of practice in the UK, everything seems to come to a stand still! Quite annoying but I'll get over it! Ah, well, only another day to do, and then more studio time for me and another shift in the Craft Mafia Shop, so nice things to look forward to....

Remember the houses?

I don't think I have posted this card design before, but I had to share it with you as it JUST SOLD ON ETSY!!!! Woo Hoo!!!
It has brightened up an otherwise 'pants' kind of day, where I left the house at 7.45am, in partial snow, and got back home, through +++ snow, at 9pm this evening!! Before you think I'm being a big bah-humbug about the snow, yes, I love the stuff, but just not on a work day, when you live 20 miles away from where you work!
But, hey, I sold another card, so who cares about the snow!!!
