Sketch book peek

I have always admired 'bird' work by other artists but didn't ever think that I would ever want to draw one myself! After a session with the chickens on the farm I seem to have changed my mind and can't stop doodling the little blighters! All shapes and sizes, they just seem to be coming to life before my eyes. I think this is what they call being inspired by something quite unexpected!

Watch this space for the cards soming soon, and if anyone can think of a fab 'bird related' name for my range you can have your pick of one of the finished cards. I initally thought 'Chic and Cheerful' but then had second thoughts, a bit too twee and obvious.... really, any ideas would be gratefully received from you creative bloggers out there!

This range needs a name....

The beginnings of a new spring range, lots of ideas for this one.... will show you when they are done but I have had fun this morning playing around with images. Can anyone think of a name for the range, i know difficult without seeing them all, but it has to be 'tweet' related....
Better go and peel the veg for our Sunday Roast. Weather today is fab, we are now officially in British Summer Time (or something like that). We added on our hour last night, and still managed to get out of bed this morning at a suitably early hour. The sun is shining and we are feeling good!

Meet the Girls (and stuff)

For Christmas my Dad gave my Mum six hens... what a fab present. Last week when I was up there I sat sketching them one morning when I had the house to myself. I have been developing them this afternoon, all cosied up in the studio, wind howling outside, balck clouds racing across the sky. What an ideal way to spend an afternoon at the near-end of a wonderful two week holiday from work. I was that relaxed I even gave in to temptation and curled up on the sofa-bed myself and had an afternoon nap!!

One thing I wanted to ask you all who read, and please let me know what you think. Now, I'm starting to have a few reservations about posting as much of my work on this blog. I'm not sure why, as I love sharing what I have been up to and getting feedback from those kind enough to comment. BUT.... the other day I was a-browsing the old www and came across an image that had a remarkable resemblance to something I posted about two years ago. Now, call me paranoid but my initial thought was.........that looks like mine. I know that certain subject matter gets done and redone, and that two people can have very similar tastes, styles and interpretations of things, but you can't help thinking about the 'bad people' who wouldn't think twice about helping themselves to your images. You post them on your blog with the best faith and intentions, in the hope that no-one will steal your ideas.......... is it just me?? Am I being paranoid, or should I jut be encouraged that someone with a very similar style has been publised by a very well know brand?

Clear out

No pictures but a bit of philosophy....... had a big clearout today of my wardrobe and my house (initiated by some decorating, which makes you want to make everything bright and shiny and new), which i have been meaning to do for ages. I have had things in my wardrobe i haven't worn for a long, long time. Today I went thru them all and packed them all into three big bags and took them all to a charity shop doing my bit for recycling and all. And usually I would umm and ahh and end up putting 90% of my clearout back where it came from, but today I was in the zone and bagged it all up and took it all away, straight away.

I came home feeling like I had disposed of a lot of unwanted baggage and felt a lot better for doing it. It's amazing how we hang on to a load of old crap that we don't need, and how it makes us feel a lot better to just get rid of it all.

So this week I will be carrying that thought into a few other areas in my life. It's spring time so it's time for 'out with the old and in with the new'. Time for positivity, and most of all, hopefulness for new things....

Ahhhh, now thats off my chest I'm off to beddy-byes... night-night!!

Mini Summer

No, really we DID have a mini-summer. We found it in Norfolk, and the sun shone and it was warm(ish) and we had ice-cream and everything! And then two days later we got caught in a snow storm on the way to the pub and nearly got blown away in the wind, and I didn't bother taking any pics of that! I didn't ever really believe Crowded House when they said you can have four seasons in one day, but now i do.
Had a lovely break, did lots of walking in the beautiful Norfolk countryside and coastline and even though we couldn't stay in the original cottage we had booked (long story.... leaky broken and condemned boiler, nasty oil smell and no hot water or heating!) luckily we found another and had our holiday there instead! What a start to the holiday... but we were fine.
Glad to be back though, must be getting old when you miss your bed!!
More sooziebee work to show you soon, post-holiday refreshed and raring to go, here's to lots of quality studio time and some good work to do!!

There's no place like home

Ans thats where I have been for the last few days, up North to see the family. Here are some shots I took in Newcastle, where 'the ladies went to lunch' on Saturday (well the ladies and a very cute little boy called Thomas!). The Millenium Bridge is fantastic, although a bit scary to walk across. Its great to see at night 'cos its all lit up and pretty!! The Baltic Gallery on the Gateshead side of the Tyne is amazing too. If you ever get the chance to visit then do... Fab views from the huge glass viewing platform at the top.
As for me, I have come back feeling all relaxed, having had a fab time with the whole family. It doesn't happen very often that we are all in the same place at the same time, and that makes it all the more special when we are. I think you appreciate family more as you get older and I really love spending quality time with them. They say that you can choose your friends but not your family.... well even if I could I wouldn't change a thing!

i'm still here

I am away at the moment and am having a great time with my family, but i have forgotten my camera lead-thingy so i can't even share any of my photos!!

The weather is fab, really sunny, and i saw my first spring lamb yesterday in Northumberland. Having a lovey lovely time, its great to be off work!!

1st Daffs

A new abstract card I tried today. Collage and stitch, which works quite well. I am having problems with my sewing machine, which I only bought a year and a half ago. Its going to cost £75 for them to just have a look at it, how annoying is that?

Steve came home with a bunch of daffodils today, the first ones of the year. They really do brighten things up! Spring is definitely here and I can't wait to get out into the garden and sketch when everything starts growing!
One more day to work until I break up for two weeks, which will be great. Spending time with family and friends, yey!! Lunch date with all the clan on Saturday and shopping with my sister afterwards, what could be better!

1000 Handmade Greetings!!!!

Remember ages ago when I submitted some of my card designs to a book? Well my copy came today and it was sooo exciting to see my designs in print!! Bit of a landmark moment. The book, published by Quarry is a fantastic selection of handmade greetings cards, and if you are into such things then you should order your copy now... I'm honoured to be part of such an amazing project, and very proud that my designs sit along side of some of my most admired designers.

Last day of the cake giveaway

Here are some more sweet offerings from sooziebee, some collage cupcakes I did in the studio on Friday. One of them will be making its way to the lucky winner later on today with a selection of other goodies. Results later....

And what better way to celebrate my 300th post giveaway, than by making a cake. This one is gorgeous recipe I found in the Good Food Magazine we used to subscribe to. Its Date, Honey and Walnut, and is a kind-of healthy cake (it has mushed up bananas in it, so must count towards some of your five-a-day!!).
This weekend has been unexpectedly good. We were meant to be off up North this weekend for my sisters (number 3) birthday party, to see the folks, my sister (number 2) who is just back from Italy and my other sister (number 4) and her baby (number 1 nephew), who we haven't seen since Christmas. Unfortunatey we were unable to go as my hubby has been poorly with tonsilitis and chest infection so I have been the 'nurse' this weekend (part of the reason for the cake!!). I'm not sure I would make a very good one (nurse, not cake) but he seems to be feeling a lot better now, which is good!
Instead we have spent the weekend at home (me trying not to feel sorry for myself, as missing the family like mad!), doing nice outside things like walking our dog and doing a little spot of gardening (which has made us both ache!). Spring finally seems to be arriving, the sun has been shining and it seems a little warmer, but it is meant to be getting cold again this week, and the s-word has even been mentioned!!
Will post later with results of the giveaway, thanks for all the comments you have posted, I'm amazed at the response!
