All Raspberry

At lunchtime today I was browsing the web after hanging out the washing in the glorious sunshine and I had decided I needed a new peg bag. Supporting 'handmade' as only a true maker can, I browsed Etsy and Folksy in my quest to find the perfect one. See above my delightful purchase from Raspberry. Alice, from Raspberry, makes a gorgeous line of textile goods, and I have been hanging my nose over the bags for ages. Check out her blog here and her etsy shop here

So in honour of my new peg bag and a fab shop and blog by a very talented textile lady, I present to you, my newest illustration in my bird range....... drum roll......'Raspberry Retreat'. For sale soon (ie when/if the sun goes in and I have done my chores (ironing, cooking and online grocery shop!).

no bird is an island

no man is an island either, although somtimes i do wonder whether this would be quite nice, even only for a while, just to be alone, and have some time to sketch, read, drink cups of tea and ponder the complexities of life..... knowing me though, the idea would be far nicer than the reality and i would get bored and have to ring someone up for a chat after about an hour!

No Bird is an Island: available in Etsy and Folksy shops now..

Three houses

Another one without a suitable frame, but propped up against some flowers looks fine. Today is the start of the weekend, and I am glad to say it seems we have brought the sunshine back from Spain with us. Today I have millions of jobs to do so I just hope I get time to do some sketching.
Hope you all have a good weekend x

2+1=3

Finally dragged self away from day job!! Yey!!

Ha, we have sun but no picture frame.... ah, who needs a picture frame anyway, just go and stick your picture in a tree, it looks just as good!!

Now, featured in both Etsy and Folksy. But..... thinking out loud.... or talking to self......is this a mistake? What if the 'unhappenable' (made-up word!) happened and they both sold at the same time??? And back in the real world.... methinks that is extremely unlikely so I am just gonna tempt fate and deal with the fallout if the time ever comes!

restful break??

I can't wait to do something with these pictures I took on my jollies. The amount of flowers in bloom over in Spain was fantastico, lots and lots of lovely inspiration for more work. Talking of which I have sold one of my originals on Folksy while I was away, very chuffed about that indeed. While I was away I had a complete break from my illustrations and didn't even open my sketchbook, which was actually quite refreshing. Makes me all the more excited about getting back into it. They say a break is as good as a rest, luckily I managed to have both!
Meanwhile, back in the real world, I am trying not to get too stressed about my day job, although this is proving quite difficult for one reason or another, the details of which I won't bore you with. Do you ever feel like there are sometimes when you are just really good at handling stress and other times where the slightest problem makes your head feel like its going to explode? I don't know what the magic formula is but mine just isn't quite the right mix at the mo and I keep getting the feeling sometimes life is just going too fast. Stop the ride I want to get off for a while!!!

Spanish inspiration

Hola!! Some of you might have noticed my lack of ramblings for the past week... My little blog absence was for a reason, I have been to Southern Spain for a wee holiday with my hubby, and spent the week in the sun, wandering round the old town of Carmona, staying in an old coverted monastery and generally having some well needed R and R.
Will keep this post short, as have had a pig of a day and need to walk the dog and go to bed, but glad to be back and have missed you x

where has the sun gone?

not ideal weather conditions for photographing new pictures is it? the sun has gone, upped sticks and disappeared.... hmmm..... not impressed!!
Oh, well I am going to post some of my work on Etsy this afternoon. I have a huge to-do list which includes ironing, washing, and loads of other stuff i wish the fairies would come and do for me so I can sit and draw instead!
By the way, a big thankyou to all of you who have left so many lovely positive comments about my new birdy range, i'm really encouraged by them all, thanks for taking the time to post!! xoxo

little bird

little bird will be available soon in my etsy shop to buy as an original or print. I have to knuckle down and get the rest of my work framed and photographed (but it is sooo time-consuming and I haven't had a lot of time to do it lately!) Promise to do it soon. Has anyone any ideas for showcasing and getting opinions online? I have thought about maybe doing an online poll but would love some advice about how to do it...

Also Nottingham Craft Mafia will hopefully be featured in a magazine soon.... watch this space for info...

help me spread the word.... pretty please

More new ideas for the bird range you have been seeing for the past couple of weeks! I haven't sold a jot on Etsy yet but have put in a few submissions to some of the fab style blogs I read, you never know.... fingers crossed for a bit of publicity. I have one favour to ask you bloggers out there, I need your help!! Would anyone mind giving my new range a cheeky mention or two? I need to spread the word and was hoping you could help (fingers crossed hopefully once again!!) In return I will obviously link back to you for your support and do a return feature on here....
As for me, a perfect weekend so far, with oak leaf wine bubbling away in the spare bedroom (not convinced that this is going to be drinkable in 6 months time, but reviews of our recipe have been good). We have also been getting our hands dirty in the garden, replanting some very suspect 'rows' of beetroot and carrots (original rows planted by me, and if you didn't know better you would think I had had few glasses of vintage oak leaf before I did them!). Also my little baby courgettes (grown with love from seed) have made it out into the big boys bed next to the potatoes. All very exciting..... can't wait to eat them! Sod the glitzy city life, nights out and dancing til dawn, its all home sweet home for this gal!! And I'm LOVING it!

coloured

colour option on ink drawings... hmmmm not really sure about it. maybe i should try doing the whole picture in a colour and see what that looks like (thinking out loud once again!).
As for things other than sooziebee, we have been out today in the style of Tom and Barbara Good (in the Good life, a 1970s UK comedy about two people who jack in the rat race in a bid to become self-sufficient) and have been picking oak leaves..... for an oak leaf wine no less!! I know, sounds disgusting (and at the moment smells like sea-weed/cabbage so not smelling too nice!!) but we thought we would give it try. Nothing ventured nothing gained...

Introducing my new range.....

How Does Your Garden Grow?

Home Tweet Home

Hearts and Flowers
All for sale now in my shop for the bargain price of $40 each for originals and $20 for prints. More will be going on sale as soon as the sun comes out and I can take some more photos!! Wow, I feel I have accomplished something today

a bit of colour and and al fresco photography

You wanted some colour? Well, I will give you colour, meet my new colourful ink pens ready and raring to go on some of my new bird designs. More on that later though as I have some photos to show you of my pictures all framed.

I was trying to be a bit inventive and, as its a sunny day, I thought I would try to take some pics in the garden, in amongst nature! Its a bit of an experiment but I really wanted to get some good shots for when these pics all go onto Etsy/Folksy shops. It's blinking time consuming though, and it isn't as easy as it looks. I think I may have a few decent ones though out of the 50 or so I have taken. Here are some of the better of the bunch....

spoiled for choice

Will it be the medium textured or hot-pressed tonight I wonder?
Today at my day job it has been officially a **** day! You know those days where you just can't get caught up for love nor money and there don't seem to be enough hours in the day even though you work thru your lunch break? Well, that's been my day today. I'm not going to dwell on it though, as I have more exciting things to think about ie. ink, posh paper, comfy sofa and a couple of hours to play before I go to bed. The cold bottle of vino in the fridge is a-calling... maybe just a glass!!
Hopefully tonight while I am asleep I will grow another pair of hands, they will definitely come in useful tomorrow!!

Or would you prefer a house like this?

What a fantastic bank hol weekend.... lots of well-needed R&R!! I even went and bought some new pens and lovely posh paper ie. some Daler Rowney 300gsm Extra Smooth Watercolour Paper (it's that nice it deserves CAPITAL letters!) for my new range of original ink drawings. Tomorrow I'm off to get some frames to go with them and will be attempting to photograph them so I can start to sell them in my shop asap. Don't hold your breath for the fantastic photos though, they may be some time!!! They say practice makes perfect, so I may be a while.

who lives in a house like this?

Every time I hear that expression I always think of Loyd Grossman in 'Through the keyhole', 90s day time telly, what a blast from the past.... Anyway, I digress.... I'm working on some bird houses to go with my series of ink drawings. Still throughly enjoying them, the novelty hasn't worn off quite yet. And today looks like it is going to be a good one for sketching. It's Bank Holiday Monday, and the wall to wall sunshine we were promised by our BBC weathermen has disappeared, replaced by grey clouds and rain.
Never mind, plenty of nice things to do indoors. We made some rhubarb and ginger wine yesterday so we have that to strain off and put into demi-johns. Yes, I know I sound like I know what I'm talking about, but I don't really. I just did the chopping of the rhubarb and putting it in the pan. Steve is in charge of the master plan, I'm just the cheap labour!! But I'm sure I will be helping sample the goods in 6 months time....

no. 5

I'm imagining this one in a long black frame with white border. It's number 5 in my series, and as you can see I still haven't mastered the art of photographing my work, but you get the general idea...

no. 4

Apologies for the quality of the photos! I will crack this photo lark sometime I promise, maybe I need to build a light box then I won't have to wait til the sun comes out, something which one does not want to hold ones breath for in this country!

Ok, the plan for the birdies.... a series of about 20 originals and prints, (I have done about 7 so far, this one above is number 4), maybe a little online survey to see which people like the best and then get some framed and photographed and put on sale in one of my shops and maybe try to get a little web publicity. Reading a few of my pattern reference source books has been really useful for new ideas. I love getting immersed in a new idea and feeling all enthused about something new. I guess some would say I have been well and truly inspired...

Any marketing suggestions or links for blogs, feel free to let me know, I know I can rely on you lot for some help.

Enjoy your weekend

a step further

I am spending my time this week working on this series of bird drawings. I'm quite liking how they are turning out and as I said yesterday I have been very encouraged by the comments that people have left. Even my husband said yesterday (in a surprised tone) 'they look really professional! Wow, I nearly fell off my chair!

So, I want to take them a step further and try to get some framed and sold. BUT (thinking our loud now so bear with me...) I am just wondering whether:

(1) they are commercial enough
(2) black and white vs colour.
(3) print vs original

Maybe I should just give colour a try and see how it looks. Personally I like the black and white but I am wondering whether people want some colour. I'm off to try some more experiments... let me know your thoughts please.
